MIDDLEWICH, U.K. - Jan. 28, 2016 - PRLog -- The EEF is predicting that 2016 could be a challenging year for UK manufacturers. At MACH Forcam will be showing how improving shop floor productivity is one way to mitigate these problems by using Forcam Force, their software for the interconnection of machines to gather production information and provide real-time production performance data.

Forcam Force is a suite of software that regularly delivers productivity gains of 20 per cent or more during the first year and provides the foundation for continuous improvement. “Over 60,000 machine tools and processes in world class companies like Audi, BorgWarner and GKN Aerospace, are interconnected using Forcam. This tracks many issues including plant outages, sub-optimal cycle times, material or quality concerns and provides meaningful role-relevant reports to managers so they can act to maintain output and quality,” explained Andrew Steele, the UK managing director.

Exhibition visitors will be able to see for themselves. On the Forcam stand will be a live model manufacturing cell where work in progress is tracked as components pass from one workstation to another following MACH’s ‘Manufacturing in Motion’ theme. Each stage in the process is monitored and the system will generate instant customised reports. Andrew noted, “Information from Forcam Force provides real time data for plant management but also feeds directly into the ERP system, providing the vital live production data that really can turbocharge the whole enterprise.”

Forcam’s depth of world wide experience and the flexibility of the software means that the company has the capability to connect machines from different manufacturers with different control protocols. This capability even extends to legacy equipment so that every aspect of shop-floor operations is monitored effectively.

The networking of shop floor operations is variously known as the Industrial Internet of Things or, beginning in Germany, Industry 4.0 – the fourth industrial revolution. Building confidence in the management team for such a transition can take time, so Forcam has created Smart Factory in a Box. This is a fully featured version of the software that enables customers to conduct a low cost, low risk trial before proceeding to full roll out.

Andrew concluded, “Forcam Force is used by leading automotive, aerospace, and engineering producers. At MACH our aim is to share our experience and show that while this is a major aid to productivity it is also a system of working that speeds information flow for the benefit of the whole enterprise.”
