Rocky Debates in the Granite State

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Jan. 19, 2016 - PRLog -- This is the 100^th Anniversary of the New Hampshire Primary, and for the last 89 of those years, the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm College has sponsored its Lesser-Known Candidates Forum. The Lesser-Known Candidates Forum has historically provided an opportunity to be heard for unknown presidential candidates, who had no chance of winning. However, this year is different. Democratic candidate, Roque “Rocky” De La Fuente, will be in attendance.

The debate will be held on January 19 at 6:00 p.m. at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at St. Anselm College.

While only entering the race on October 1, 2015, De La Fuente has already passed former Gov. Martin O’Malley with respect to the number of state ballots for which he has qualified. De La Fuente even qualified in the critical swing state of Ohio, while O’Malley did not. Yet, most Americans have never heard of De La Fuente.

De La Fuente is a successful business man with vast international experience, who has created thousands of jobs around the country. De La Fuente also has been active in party politics, serving as the first Hispanic American Delegate At-Large for the State of California in the 1992 Presidential Democratic National Convention.

While he should have been in last Sunday’s Presidential Debate in South Carolina, De La Fuente says he is pleased to participate in the Lesser-Known Candidates Forum. “New Hampshire has a rich political tradition, and its citizens care about our country and take the time to become informed,” said De La Fuente. “I appreciate the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm College commitment to free speech.”

De La Fuente is already on 24 ballots. He is awaiting confirmation on nine more and intends to file and qualify in all the remaining states.

"I’m not a polished politician,” said De La Fuente. “I’m just like you. I know what the real world is like because I live in it. I understand minority issues because I am one. I’ve had to overcome obstacles to achieve success, and I think that’s the type of leadership our country needs.”

While it would be easy to dismiss his chances, he has already shown that he knows how to overcome obstacles. He is believed to be the first person in history to have ever qualified by signature petition in Massachusetts, Michigan and North Carolina.

Michigan, in particular, required 12,832 signatures that fit demanding criteria, and those signatures had to be gathered within seven days. De La Fuente shocked the establishment by delivering 1,819 petitions containing 20,166 signatures in those seven days. While the politically elite are granted ballot access by many of the states, De La Fuente had to achieve his through the will of the people.

President Obama was relatively unknown in 2008, but he had the support of the Democratic leadership. It remains to be seen whether leadership will voluntarily acknowledge De La Fuente’s extraordinary accomplishments. If not, it would appear we can expect him to kick down that door.
