In 2012, Sandra was awarded the Courage to Come Back Award in Mental Health by Coastal Health in Vancouver. In that same year, she was named one of the five Faces of Mental Illness in Canada by the Canadian Alliance on Mental Ilness and Mental Health.

In addition, Ms Mackay received a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal which recognizes outstanding Canadians and honours them for their contributions to fellow citizens, to their communities and to the country.
