SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Nov. 5, 2015 - PRLog -- O. Robin Sweet Co-founder of Spectrum College   Transition Program, (SCTP), specializing in male students with Asperger’s and High Functioning Autism, is proud to announce that the Department of Health Services has awarded a License to SCTP to operate as a High School-College Residential Behavioral Health Facility, and the Department of Education has approved SCTP as a State Approved School. The License and Approval will allow male students High School thru College to reside at the Spectrum House. A Big Brother will be assigned to each High School student for support.Therapeutic Staff and Special Education Faculty will support each student with social/emotional/academic goals to prepare them for independent living and success in the community!

According to O. Robin Sweet, “This Licensure and Approval is integral to the growth and development of our high school and college bound students. The significance will allow families, who could not typically afford our program, to submit their Program Invoice to their insurance company for reimbursement, and, depending on their Mental Health coverage, they could recoup 80-100% of tuition. The Approval from the Department of Education allows school Districts to privately place students for residential support. This is wonderful timing, as Spectrum is a sponsor of the IECA National Conference, which is being held this week at the Westin Kierland Resort.

Spectrum Transition Program was founded in 2009, and it is the only Residential High School and Transition Program in the United States, specializing solely in students with Asperger’s Syndrome and High Functioning Autism.

The site is a beautiful home-away-from-home in Scottsdale, Arizona for young men, who are interested in pursuing a secondary or post-secondary education. Students want to attend high school - college, but require assistance academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally.

The program has rolling enrollment, length of stay: 6 months, 1 year, 18 months, 2 years. The goal for students is to transition into a 4 year program; apprenticeship; or work.

This unique program was created by Dr. Thomas A. Bloom, COO, and O. Robin Sweet, Executive Director and CEO. SCTP was started out of personal need, as their son has Asperger’s Syndrome. When asked why they created a residential program, Ms. Sweet responded “Individual families reached out to us in hopes of securing a safe, caring, supportive environment for their sons. Disability Service Directors from across the U.S. have told us that graduates with high functioning autism excel academically, but struggle socially. We know that these students are capable of the academics, but require the additional social/emotional support of a program like Spectrum, in order to excel. Hence, Spectrum was born!”

Program Features: Furnished bedroom suites with Internet access, Sensory Cuisine, On-site Water Park/Rock Climbing wall, Study Center, Recreation Room, Fitness Center, Volleyball Court, Media room, Common Room with Wi-Fi, Horticulture Garden, and Laundry Facilities.

Support services include: on site campus support, individual therapy, self-advocacy skills, organizational and time management skills, career exploration, study skills, sensory tools and strategies, social thinking skills, perspective taking, and cause and effect. Life Skills include: cooking, time management, laundry, cleaning, balance diet, exercise, hygiene, and stress management.

“College Life”, a residential Summer program, focuses on helping students learn how to prepare for their entry into college. Transitioning to college means learning how to live independently, and students will gain skills and information that is invaluable, as they move into a post-secondary environment. SCTP is set up to accommodate the sensory sensitive needs of our students. Students participate in many facilitated social activities, which include both educational and socially appropriate outings designed to build community and social skills. Some of these activities include a tubing down the Salt River, Top Golf, movie nights, Segway tours, Big Surf, Comicon, neon bowling, cookouts, and much more! Enrollment is limited!
