By: Ed Mascari Jazz Trio Ed Mascari and Rebecca Wellons are Hudson residents who have been performing together since 2013. Their duo became a trio in 2014 when upright bassist Marliese Ballon joined these two collaborators to add her solid bass lines to enhance enrich and enlarge the ensemble sound. The Ed Mascari Jazz Trio has given concerts at the Wayland, Sudbury, Marlborough and Stow libraries. They have also performed at such venues as the Harvest Café, Ken’s Steak House (Framingham) Playing such songs as Night and Day, Someday My Prince Will Come, Just Friends and Secret Love plus a few inspiring originals, these three radiate a sense of fun performing for multiple generations. In his early career, he worked as a jazz organist leading his own quartet playing concerts at many New England Colleges. Later he played electric piano and synthesizer in “Top 40” bands and then performed as a solo pianist at such venues as the Sheraton Boston Hotel and for 14 years at the Radisson Milford Hotel. Since 1981, Ed has been the organist/pianist/ Ed Mascarihas been teaching piano to adults and children for the past 35 years at the Ed Mascari Piano Studio with locations in Natick and in Hudson. For information about piano lessons www.edmascari.com Rebecca Wellons-alto & soprano saxophones and flute has performed with the Chagall Performing Arts Collaborative, the CPAC Saxophone Quartet, The Boston Percussion Group, and has been featured as a soloist with the Bridgewater State University Wind Ensemble. She has also participated in numerous premieres of music for saxophone including works by Aaron Jay Myers, Claudio Gabriele, and Robert Lemay. Rebecca can be heard on Cauchemar Records. As an educator, Rebecca directs the jazz and concert bands and also teaches general music at Wayland Middle School. In the past, she has taught saxophone and music history at Bridgewater State University, directed public school bands and music for grades 3 – 12, and maintained a successful private teaching studio. Rebecca earned degrees from Indiana University (BME) and The Boston Conservatory (MMEd and MM). Her teachers have included Kenneth Radnofsky, Otis Murphy, and Eugene Rousseau. Marliese Ballon-upright bass has been performing as a freelance bassist for the past 10 years. In addition to playing gigs with jazz pianist Greg Woodsbie, the Stage Door Canteen (Martha’s Vineyard) and the Mark Jodice Trio at Cloe’s (Hudson, MA), she has played in pit orchestras for Worcester’s Foot Hills Theatre and Lynnfield High School productions directed by Doug Hodgkins. As an educator, Marliese teaches bass privately and from 2003-2013 was the assistant bass coach at Foxboro High School Summer Jazz Camp run by Stephen Massey. During that decade, she worked with such notable faculty members/Boston musicians as Steve Skop, Jared Seabrook, Steve Lajoie, Jeff Richardi and Ted Casher.
