BR Krav Maga & Fitness Joins Forces with Stop Cancer
in 3rd Annual Fundraiser for Breast Cancer

BATON ROUGE, La. - Oct. 9, 2015 - PRLog -- Starting in the month of October, BR Krav Maga & Fitness will be teaming up with STOP CANCER, a non-profit organization dedicated to funding cancer research, in the fight against breast cancer. In addition to its regularly scheduled classes, BR Krav Maga will be offering an annual women’s self defense seminar-fundraiser on October 17th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The seminar will focus on two of Krav Maga’s most important principals, personal safety and a fighting spirit.

The goals of the event are fourfold: 1) To bring people closer to their community; 2) to teach people to protect themselves, 3) to raise money to help find a cure for breast cancer, and 4) to honor the memory of Marni Levine, the highest-ranking female Krav Maga instructor in the world, who died on August 31, 2006 after a five-year battle with breast cancer.

Marni Levine was a fourth degree black belt, a 37-year-old mother of two, and a true fighter. She made it her goal to teach men, women and children how to protect themselves through training the body and the spirit.

Marni’s death inspired the worldwide community of Krav Maga instructors and school owners to inaugurate the Annual Fight Cancer Fundraiser in October 2006.

The self-defense seminar, taught by certified Krav Maga instructors, will donate 100 percent of the proceeds to the Marni Fund. All funds will be matched by the receiving Comprehensive Cancer Research Center.

The Marni Fund currently supports twelve of the Southern California's most innovative, young cancer researchers: Dr. Mei Kong, Ph. D., City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Research Center, Dr. Sanaz Memarzadeh, M.D., Ph.D., UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, Dr. Christina Curtis, Ph.D., USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer, Dr. Susan Ramus, Ph.D., City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center, Dr. Giridharan Ramsingh, M.D., USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, Dr. Julie Lang, M.D., USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, Dr. Melanie Palomares, M.D., M.S., City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center, Dr. Sara Hurvitz, M.D., UCLA’s Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, Dr. Christopher Haiman, Sc.D., USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, Dr. Yuan Yuan, M.D., Ph.D., City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center, Dr. Jae Yeon Jung, M.D., Ph.D., City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center and Dr. Min Yu, M.D., Ph.D., USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center.
