Meliah Bowers Jefferson Named National Spokesperson for the American Heart Association

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Oct. 1, 2015 - PRLog -- The American Heart Association (AHA) has selected Wyche attorney Meliah Bowers Jefferson as a national spokesperson for its “Go Red For Women” movement.  As an AHA national spokesperson, Jefferson will share her personal experience with battling heart disease to raise awareness of heart disease and to promote prevention through healthy lifestyles.  Jefferson’s journey can be followed on Twitter (@MeliahJefferson) and on Instagram (@Meliah_Jefferson).

“Heart disease is the number one killer of women.  After surviving a heart attack at 33, I realized that there are many misconceptions about heart disease risk factors. I am honored to share my story and to educate others about heart disease among women,” said Jefferson.

Jefferson focuses her practice at Wyche on complex commercial litigation and intellectual property law.  She is a member of the South Carolina Bar Association’s Board of Governors, a Director on the Board of the South Carolina Women Lawyer’s Association, and a member of the Law School Professionalism Committee for the South Carolina Chief Justice’s Commission on the Profession.  In addition to her role with AHA, Jefferson is also actively involved in the community, advocating for access to justice within our legal system and championing diversity and inclusion efforts.

Prior to joining Wyche, Jefferson served as law clerk to The Honorable J. Michelle Childs, United States District Judge. Jefferson began her career as law clerk to The Honorable Jean H. Toal, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of South Carolina.  Jefferson is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of South Carolina Darla Moore School of Business and earned her law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law, where she served on the editorial board of the ABA Real Property, Probate, and Trust Journal.
