Ever since Hollywood’s inception, animals in entertainment such as Chippy the Chimp, Flipper, Kokomo Jr., Lassie, and Mister Ed, among others, have captivated the hearts and minds of millions. But what happens to these adored animal actors after the curtains are closed and the cameras stop rolling?

Arcus Foundation presents leading experts to discuss the range of experiences animals encounter while entertaining an audience. The discussion will shed light on this practice and its effects on the very animals loved by audiences worldwide, and explore the promising alternatives to include portrayals of animals in entertainment without compromising their well-being.

FEATURED SPEAKERS: Marc Bekoff (Professor Emeritus, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Colorado, Boulder, Fellow of the Animal Behavior Society, past Guggenheim Fellow and co-founder, with Jane Goodall, of the Ethologists for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), Stephen Ross (Director, Lester E. Fisher Center for the Study and Conservation of Apes, Lincoln Park Zoo) and Steven Wise (President, Nonhuman Rights Project, and professor of Animal Rights Jurisprudence at several leading universities)
