Locally-based electrical contracting company achieves 1,000 pledges to drive safely

Company reaches goal of national safe driving campaign and donates $10,000 to help end distracted driving

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Sept. 17, 2015 - PRLog -- This June, Power Design, Inc., an electrical contractor based out of St. Petersburg, Florida, set out to change the statistics on distracted driving. The company launched their “Decide to Drive” campaign in an effort to urge its employees and the community to change the way they drive and understand the power of one decision.

It began with a video message from Power Design’s CEO, Mitch Permuy, asking others to “join in making the one decision not to text while driving, the one decision not to email while driving, and the one decision not to drink and drive.” Next was the launch of the pledge website, which allowed employees and the community to sign in an effort to bring awareness to their driving habits. The company did everything from flying a plane with “The Power of 1” banner, to staging a car crash at their corporate headquarters to help drive the message home.

The campaign quickly spread through social media and news outlets that Power Design had set out to achieve 1,000 pledges, which once reached, a $10,000 donation would be made to EndDD.org, an organization dedicated to ending distracted driving by spreading awareness to youth across the country.

As of Friday, Sept. 11 with 1,010 pledges signed, Power Design reached its goal and welcomed Joel Feldman of EndDD.org to their corporate headquarters to address the employees who helped achieve this milestone. “We want to thank each and every Power Design employee who took the safe driving pledge,” said Feldman. “Your donation will fund a PSA that will be seen by 70,000 people across the country.”

Following Feldman’s address to the company, Power Design employees enjoyed a food truck lunch and had the opportunity to meet him and share personal stories of how the pledge has affected their driving.

“Power Design’s commitment to safe driving will not only keep its employees safe, but will save thousands of lives across the country,” said Feldman. The company plans to partner with more charity organizations that promote safe driving and continue their mission to educate employees on safe driving tips. The Power of 1 will be a living, breathing part of Power Design’s culture for years to come.
