Author Sherry Turkle on Reclaiming Conversation

Talk in the Digital Age at the Oshman Family JCC in Palo Alto

PALO ALTO, Calif. - Sept. 16, 2015 - PRLog -- The technological universe we live in encourages connection and communication, but at what cost? Have we sacrificed conversation for mere connection?

Preeminent author and researcher Sherry Turkle has been studying digital culture for over thirty years, and she says yes. ? The dinner table falls silent as children compete with phones for their parents’ attention. Friends learn strategies to keep conversations going when only a few people are looking up from their phones. At work, we retreat to our screens although it is conversation at the water cooler that increases not only productivity but commitment to work. Online, we only want to share opinions that our followers will agree with.

Turkle will help reclaim the conversation at a book discussion and signing at the Oshman Family JCC Tuesday, October 27 at 7:30 PM.

Tickets: Premium: $40 for ticket, book, priority seating and priority book signing line.

General Admission: $10 students | $20 General Public.
