BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Aug. 11, 2015 - PRLog -- BROOKLYN, New York August, 14, 2015 -- Take Your Sisters 2 Lunch (TYS2L) is establishing itself as an influential presence in the Brooklyn community and is hosting its first TYS2L Festival of Prayer, Knowledge, and Performing Arts event.  Its goal is to offer guidance and inspirational words and performances by women who lead in their respective communities, to benefit underserved women.  It takes place, August 14-15, 2015, a Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, 760 DeKalb Ave., Brooklyn, New York.  Each speaker will address the concerns that are adversely impacting underserved women today, with the purpose of sharing useful information that will inspire and empower them. The two-day event kicks off with Nancy Baptiste, spoken word artist and a celebration of Executives-in-Waiting ceremony followed by Hawaiian Women & Poetry. The next day is a full program of workshops and messages delivered through inspiring discussion and performances, designed to inspire and help women discover specific steps to starting businesses. The workshop will also help women learn ways to begin monitoring their food choices to improve health, and recognizing methods to maintain emotional health and alleviate stress.

“It became very apparent that our lunch meetings were providing women an outlet to share their stories, and in many instances, enable them seek help in the form of advice and guidance, from each other” said Dr. Dianna Anderson, Founder/CEO who along with her sister and daughter founded TYS2L and knows first hand the arduous effort of working low wage jobs, commuting to and from the housing projects, in harsh weather conditions and how these conditions shape one’s life and outlook. Dr. Anderson’s insight into the lives of  underserved women of color showed her that most women living within housing development neighborhoods, often experience not just the financial fallout of poverty, but also impact on their health, marriages, and parenting success. “But when people share a common experience, there’s a much better chance for them to empower each other and that is exactly how we’ve seen our TYSL meetings evolve … it’s where women can participate and feel welcome to share ideas, advice and support of each other in a non judgemental atmosphere of sisterly comaraderie and genuine concern,” she said

Originally created in 2009, TYS2L’s first chapter was founded within Brownsville’s New York City Housing Development. It grew in popularity after an informal discussion group of women of all faiths, ethnicities, and varying ages began meeting regularly. Before long these women brought along their lunches, sharing intimate meals over discussions on an an array of topics about their children, marriages, work experiences, finances, and the variety of personal struggles and challenges they encounterd.

“It’s never too late to start investing in yourself, and this is the focus of TYS2L’s Festival of Prayer, Knowledge, and Performing Arts. Together, our communities are stronger and better when we address our needs constructively,” Dr. Anderson added.
