| Eastern Michigan University named "Best In The Midwest" college by The Princeton Review for 13thStudents cite EMU's faculty, student organizations, Student Center as strengths in interviews with Review
The nationally known education services company recommends Eastern as one of 159 institutions in 12 Midwestern states to its "Best in the Midwest (http://www.princetonreview.com/ The Princeton Review does not rank the 649 colleges in its "2016 Best Colleges: Region by Region" list hierarchically or in various categories. The 159 colleges that The Princeton Review chose for its "Best in the Midwest" 2015 list are located in twelve states: Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. The Princeton Review also designated 225 colleges in the Northeast, 125 in the West, and 140 in the Southeast as best in their locales on the company’s "2016 Best Colleges: Region by Region" lists. Collectively, the 649 colleges named "regional best(s)" constitute about 25 percent of the nation's 2,500 four-year colleges. In its profile on Eastern (http://www.princetonreview.com/ Along with EMU’s emphasis on educating teachers, students note other strengths including "all the different science disciplines, from biology to zoology," the nursing program, a social work program that "advocates for social and economic justice and is a great place to learn," and a popular business program whose "administration is very tech savvy and knows that the business world is a changing place.” The Review quotes students as saying Eastern’s curriculum is designed to serve "real people learning through discussion and interaction" Students also note to the Review that EMU is home to "lots of student-run organizations"; The EMU Student Center was recently named one of the top student unions in the country by Best College Reviews, a national ranking service that seeks to inform students about the interesting trends and features on campuses around the country. Best College Reviews, located in Grandville, Mich., rated the EMU Student Center fourth in its list of the 25 best student unions. Robert Franek, Princeton Review's Senior VP / Publisher said, "We developed our "Best Colleges: Region by Region" lists to offer guidance for the growing number of students and parents now seeking colleges closer to home. We selected Eastern – and the other terrific institutions on our regional best lists – primarily for their excellent academic offerings." The Princeton Review editors narrowed their choices based on institutional data the company collected directly from several hundred colleges in each region, staff visits to schools over the years, and the opinions of college counselors and advisors whose recommendations the company invites. Only schools that permit the Review to independently survey their students are eligible to be considered for the regional “best” lists.
