July 29, 2015 - PRLog -- College life brings a lot of opportunities to aspiring students, but it is not without challenges and responsibilities. College life is a whole new environment that entails students to maximize what they have learned in high school and devote the values accrued during their formative years.

College Preps and Students’ Success

K-12 learners already have a firm grasp of the degree they would like to major on in college, and it is the duty of parents and educational institutions to oversee this transition. When students are prepared, they are more likely to excel in their studies and reach their ambitions with flying colors.

How do educational institutions prep students for college life?

Career talks
. To ensure students are kept abreast of the various careers the corporate world offers. Many schools host career talks for Grades 7 – 11. It is also in this avenue that speakers are invited to impart tips and inspirational messages to further students’ motivation.

Life skills training. College life is about asserting one’s independence. They must know how to manage finances and take care of themselves. Through life skills training (e.g., home management), students become proficient in living on their own.

College entrance reviewer. College entrance tests sum up what K-12 students have learned in their formative years, and it is imperative they pass. Schools implement an intensive college entrance review or mock exam in order for graduating students to ace the test and get into their preferred university.

Career immersion. For students to be wholly prepared, mentally and physically, at the start of college, some schools expose learners to a week of career apprenticeship or immersion. This is where they are tested in terms of dealing with real-life problems and applying everything they have learned in high school.

VCIS and Preparing Students for College

Victory Christian International School does well in preparing students as early as Grade 7 for college life. The curriculum it employs has been constructed in a way that meets the Department of Education’s (DepED) standards in helping students be ready for university life. We, at Victory Christian International School, have programs such as Immersion, Culinary Boot Camp, and Life Skills Education to equip our learners academically for college and for the real world.
