UNC Transfer Student from Brick, NJ, Will Release Funny Memoir

BRICK, N.J. - July 28, 2015 - PRLog -- Between taking 6 classes, acclimating to a college 500 miles from his home in New Jersey, and navigating the turbulent waters of undergraduate life, transfer student and Bricktown resident Ryan Schocket wrote his first book, titled, “The Good, The Bad, & I’m Ugly?” And on August 1, it will be released.

Subtitled “My Stories as an Uncool Undergrad,” the book is a collection of his humiliating, yet hilariously awkward, experiences during his first few years of college. The 250-page memoir includes stories that will cover essential, yet often unspoken, aspects of college life—like grinding at a party, going home with someone, conquering class icebreakers, overcoming inconvenient diarrhea, sharing a room, drinking, making friends, surviving stalkers, dealing with DWGs (Drunken White Girls), and more.

TGTBIU also offers lists of advice and tips, which range from sentimental (“The nostalgia ten years from now will transfix us, as we wonder just how we felt in that very moment of crisis or elation.”) to irreverent. (“If you can’t get into a party, say that you dropped your diabetes EpiPen when you were admitted inside earlier in the night.”)

Carly De La Hoz, a writer and graduate of Princeton University, called the book “witty, rudely hilarious,” and praised it, saying, “I could not stop laughing. These are stories every college student can relate to, no matter where on the popularity chart he/she falls. ‘The Good, The Bad, & I’m Ugly?’ is a must-read college anti-guide.”

Schocket, 21, began recounting his chronicles for a blog at his current college, UNC, called “Awkward Encounters.” After being approached by readers to consolidate these humorous stories, he decided to write TGTBIU. He is also a writer for UNC’s independent student newspaper, The Daily Tar Heel.
