NEW YORK - July 17, 2015 - PRLog -- Brooklyn-based rapper Prince Harvey has quickly become famous for being the first artist to record an entire album on public Apple Store display computers; a quest that took over five months of stealth and determination. His original plan was to record on a personal computer at home like many other independant musicians, but it wasn't until his laptop and hard drive were stolen that he took a risk in innovation to complete his project. After attempts to avoid security at multiple stores, he finally found his home at New York's SoHo Apple Store. It was only fitting to title the album, 'PHATASS,' which is an acryonym for 'Prince Harvey in the Apple Store: SoHo.'  Without access to a controlled sound environment or musical instruments, his beats and layers were created solely using his own voice and ambient sounds such as barking dogs, crying babies, and vocal cameos from fellow Apple Store shoppers who've quickly become loyal fans.  Music icons such as Lil Wayne, Chamillionaire, Talib Kweli and Russell Simmons quickly noticed his efforts and blasted the story throughout social media.

In the summer of 2012, Harvey released “No Music” on Soundcloud, an up-tempo hip-hop track based on the ‘no music’ clap and chant routine popular among kids in the outer boroughs. At the time, Harvey was deeply inspired by the 1980s anti-conformist style of Bobby McFerrin, an artist who recorded all of his tracks acapella. Feeling the same disconnect with current music, and seeking to emulate McFerrin’s renegade spirit, “No Music” featured only acapella instrumentation and laid the foundation for what would become a full new age acapella hip-hop album.

In an ironic alternative to his theme "No Studio, No Problem," he will host an exclusive listening event at the famous Times Square Quad Studios to promote the launch of PHATASS. Quad Studios is known for the 1994 shooting and robbery of rapper Tupac Shakur, and has been home to the recordings of almost every major recording artist in the industry.

The invite-only event will take place on Thursday, July 23rd, just a few days before the global release of his famous Apple Store Album. Prince Harvey will be available for questions and interviews throughout the evening.
