Search Engines Replaced The Yellow Pages

Now when consumers have there hand on the wallet looking for products or services to purchase, they no longer have the other hand on the yellow pages. The are now starting on search engines.

DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. - June 30, 2015 - PRLog -- Many business owners remember how effective the yellow pages were. How not being in the yellow pages could hurt their businesses bottom line and in some cases cause the business to have to close its doors indefinitely.

Why? Local people were looking for local businesses. The yellow pages were the one place that consumers could go to and find the products and services they needed at the time they needed them. They had the phone book open, with the phone in one hand and wallet or purse in the other looking to spend their dollars with the businesses that were represented in the phone book.

Today, people are still looking for local businesses to do business with. Some may still go to the yellow pages, but many are now using search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing to find local businesses at the time they are looking to make a purchase. In fact, 93% of internet users start surfing with a search engine.

Consumers may be using their home computer or their computer at work. But as the mobile technology increases, more and more consumers are connecting to the internet while on the go. They are no longer carrying the miniature phone books like they use to. Consumers are now carrying smartphones and tablets and accessing sites like Google, Yahoo and Bing to access local businesses by keywords based on what their purchase needs are.

Proper search engine representation is now just as important as the yellow pages were at on time. Businesses making sure they are visible on the first page search engines for areas they service has become a mandatory part of doing business.Savvy business owners realize that  just being able to “Google” their business name and it coming up is not adequate. They understand that consumers are searching the search engines the same way they did the phone book. They are typing in the item or service they want to purchase, the area they want to buy in and then selecting from the businesses listed on the first page.
