"What do you think?" asks some serious questions about medical marijuana

Medical marijuana documentary seeks donations to finish filming documentary to be non-biased and explore mall sides of the issue

COLTON, Calif. - June 22, 2015 - PRLog -- LOS ANGELES, CALIF. It seems like everywhere you turn in the West Coast there is a store front with a bright green neon cross in front glowing like a candle on a windowsill in days of old. Some pay no mind to the green cross but others see it as a clear and present sign that the world is changing, and the medical marijuana movement is gaining traction in the United States.Propelled by Proposition 215, or the Compassionate Use Act of 1996, the voters in twenty-three states and the District of Columbia have passed laws decriminalizing the use of medicinal marijuana, each time in direct conflict with federal law. as with any issue, there are strong positions on all sides, and “What Do You Think?” strives to show an even and clear perspective on the established benefits and detriments of medical marijuana use and access in the United States.

“Our goal is to inform and to show the public a realistic perspective about how medical marijuana impacts people” says Picasso Mendez, writer/director of “What Do You Think?”. “My partners and I feel strongly regarding the media conversation of medicinal marijuana. The last time we had a mass substance allowed for public use in such a scale was the end of Prohibition, and I wonder what people thought about alcohol and alcohol consumption as they saw the formal legalization and the sprouting up of corner bars and liquor stores on every block.”

“Our documentary is about people” say producer Mitchell Stanford “and how they deal with weed nowadays. we all heard about Granny needing the medical weed for her glaucoma, or your aunt eating a brownie for her chemo treatment and the college student needing the weed for “migraines” – but somewhere in there the truth points to more interesting and subtle threads about why people do the things they do. I guess that is the real question, for me at least.”

The documentary “What Do You Think: medical marijuana and you” is more that 70% complete – and the producers ask the public to pitch in and help with donations at indiegogo.com. The producers are seeking a little over $12,000 to compete the documentary.

“So, its important for me to share that this is not one of those “lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine”kind of situations,” says Mendez. “Our goal was to get some perspectives and thoughts together and get start the conversation – but, we have received wonderful support and the idea has gained positive response.”

“Picasso’s right” chimes in Stanford. “We never expected this to be taken as a substantial dialogue for reflection and change, but there you go – things happen in odd, least expected ways. So we need your money to finish our film – we have about three more weeks of principal photography that we’d like to complete along with shooting a few interviews left for cohesion and substance. Really, we need your help crossing the finish line, and every little bit helps.”
