CARLISLE, Pa. - June 17, 2015 - PRLog -- An orange car jumps through the air; you hear “Dixie” playing and scream yee-haw! Carlisle Events and the Carlisle Chrysler Nationals are pleased to announce that a cast member from one of the most popular car themed shows of all time is coming to Carlisle!  Tom Wopat, who alongside then co-star John Schneider, appeared in one of TV’s most iconic programs, is coming to the Carlisle Chrysler Nationals in July.  This particular show, which aired on CBS between 1979 and 1985, is so popular it still airs today in syndication on CMT and because of its popularity; stars from it like Wopat are still a draw.  As such, he’ll appear as part of this year’s Chrysler show, July 10-12 at the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds.

Born in Wisconsin, Wopat, now 63, burst onto the national scene in 1979 as a cast member of The Dukes of Hazzard.  In addition to that role, for which he’ll forever be known, Wopat is an accomplished singer as well as continuing his acting career on screen, on stage and on TV.  He’s appeared on Fantasy Island, Christmas Comes to Willow Creek, Cybill, Murder She Wrote, Home Improvement, All My Children, Longmire, the Academy Award winning film Django Unchained and even some kids programming like The Hive and Phineas and Ferb.  Musically speaking, Wopat is quite diverse.  His career has reached from the aforementioned television and film work to high visibility Broadway roles in 1999’s Annie Get Your Gun and 2008’s Catered Affair (he received Tony Award nominations for both), as well as Chicago, Forty-Second St., Sondheim on Sondheim and more.

Most recently, Wopat was reunited with Schneider for an ad campaign for Auto Trader.  This campaign renewed interest in him and brought their always popular show back into the minds of a generation of fans.  It’s those fans, plus thousands more who have supported his stage and screen ventures that will come to Carlisle for the Chrysler show this summer.

What makes a guest like Wopat such a popular attraction?  Carlisle Chrysler Nationals event manager Ed Buczeskie weighs in.

“I was a typical kid who just loved cars when that show came out, it definitely helped to shape a generation of Mopar fans, myself included.  It’s was good, wholesome TV that I now share with my kids.  Hopefully it will help foster another generation of Mopar fans.”

Wopat will be available within Building T throughout the weekend and will offer multiple autograph sessions per day.  Guests or enthusiasts of the event or fans of Tom Wopat and the show can learn more about the weekend and his appearance at www.CarlisleEvents.com or by calling 717-243-7855.  With so much history, horsepower and culture onsite, it’s a can’t miss weekend at Carlisle!
