SAN FRANCISCO - June 3, 2015 - PRLog -- Joan Steidinger, Ph.D., a California licensed psychologist, sports psychologist, and author of Sisterhood in Sports: How Female Athletes Collaborate and Compete (Rowman and Littlefield / October 2014 / ISBN 978-1-4422-3033-0) announced today that her breakout book has won four high-profile awards given to top titles from independent publishers.

The awards are:  2015 International Book Award Winner in Sports, 2014 National Indie Excellence® Book Award Winner in Sports, the 2015 Beverly Hills Book Awards® Winner in Sports, and the Foreword Reviews INDIEFAB Book of the Year Awards Finalist in Women's Issues.

The nonfiction book is Steidinger’s well-researched look at the mind and brain strengths common to women athletes. With interviews and career highlights from female athletes of different ages, across many decades and a wide range of sports specialties, Sisterhood in Sports reveals how unique female strengths impact performance and relationships on and off the playing field.

Published in October 2014, Sisterhood in Sports quickly gained recognition as one of the first to look at the biologic drivers and unique needs of women in sports, offering practical ways to respond and support those needs. The award-winning book provides new ideas that will help girls and women succeed and find fulfillment in sports as well as in their family and social lives.

Steidinger is a sports psychologist with offices in San Francisco and Mill Valley. She is a Certified Consultant through the Association of Applied Sports Psychology (CC-AASP) and on the United States Olympic Committee’s Sport Psychology Registry.

Event: July 23, 2015 at the Commonwealth Club of California, San Francisco, Dr. Joan Steidinger presents “Empowering Women to Succeed.”
