Golden Gate Boys Choir and Bellringers Spring Concert with Guest Artists Encore Vocalists

SAN FRANCISCO - June 1, 2015 - PRLog -- Golden Gate Boys Choir and Bellringers to perform Spring Concert June 7 at 2 PM at St. Vincent de Paul Church with guest artists Encore Vocalists, the Tri-Valley’s premier contemporary a cappella ensemble.  The Boys Choir will be singing and ringing folk songs from around the world as well as commissioned selections.  Encore Vocalists will be performing jazz and popular contemporary songs.

Songs to be performed by the young men with changed voices include Kirke Mechem’s Blow Ye the Trumpet, Randall Thompson’s The Last Words of David, and the Scottish Folk song Loch Lomond.  The boys will be singing How Lovely is Your Dwelling Place by Kenneth Kosche, Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring by J. S. Bach, and Mozart’s Ave Verum Corpus.

Encore Vocalists led by Dean Christman, Music Director, will be performing Hallelujah (from the movie Shrek) by Leonard Cohen and several Kirby Shaw arrangements of Embraceable You, Fly Me to the Moon, and Here Comes Sun.  An a cappella version of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Pie Jesu, arranged by Tim Salaver will be performed with soprano Lauren Cartwright and boy sopranos John Francis Carbonell and Willem Salaver van Asten.

The Ringmasters, the nation’s premier youth handbell ringing ensemble will perform Cynthia Dobrinski’s Rondo Passacaglia, a Donald Allured arrangement of Londonderry Air, and Simple Gifts arranged by Anna Laura Page.

The Golden Gate Boys Choir and Bellringers and Encore Vocalists will combine to sing excerpts from Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria in D Major RV 589 with soloists sopranos Nanette Wehe, Lauren Cartwright, and Contralto Nancy Leigh-Smith.  Constance Torrey will accompany.  Steven Meyer, Directing.

St. Vincent de Paul Parish is located at 2320 Green Street at Steiner Street in San Francisco.  Admission is Free.  Donations will be accepted at the door.

The Golden Gate Boys Choir and Bellringers is celebrating its 27^th year of educating boys and young men in the choral and handbell arts.  Founded in 1988, the The Golden Gate Boys Choir is a member of Pueri Cantores USA and Pueri Cantores International, the official choral music association of the Roman Catholic Church.  We are a regional Catholic Boys Choir, which draws many of our member boys and families from parochial and private Catholic Schools.

Boys of any denomination are welcome as choir members, keeping in mind that they sing liturgical music for Masses and other liturgical events, Christmas Carols and other religious music, as well as folk songs, selections from Broadway musicals and patriotic pieces.  Pueri Cantores International states that anyone who is willing to "sing to the world of God's peace" through music is a welcome collaborator in our efforts to praise God, provide inspiration and offer an excellent music education to our members.”
