By: Operation Kindness Operation Kindness, the original and largest no-kill animal shelter in North Texas, created dog Day Afternoon in 1994 to recognize dog supporters, adopters and advocates. The free event serves as a way to raise awareness for the nonprofit and has evolved into a public festival for all things canine. “We are so excited for this year’s 21st annual Dog Day Afternoon,” says Jim Hanophy, Operation Kindness CEO. “It’s such a pleasure to see so many pet lovers and their dogs coming together to enjoy themselves.” Sponsored by Pet Supplies Plus, Dog Day Afternoon will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. – rain or shine – at Flag Pole Hill, 8100 Doran Circle in Dallas. Admission and parking are free. Highlights include: · “Mutt Midway” with dozens of vendors selling a wide variety of pet-related merchandise, puppy kissing booth and games with prizes · Goodie bags for the first 750 humans · Canine contests for trophies and prizes, including: Best Costume, Stupid Pet Tricks, and Best Pooch Smooch, sponsored by Natural Balance Pet Foods · Food trucks selling an assortment of food and drinks · Dallas Dog and Disc Club Performances · Free “Ask the Trainer” tent · Free “Ask the Vet” tent featuring Rutherford Veterinary Clinic · Low cost micro-chipping · Kids Zone with free face painting, stickers and playground for children · Pet adoptions – adoption fees to help benefit homeless animals About Operation Kindness Founded in 1976, Operation Kindness is the original and largest no-kill shelter in North Texas. Its mission is to care for homeless cats and dogs in a no-kill environment until each is adopted into responsible homes and to advocate humane values and behavior. Operation Kindness has saved nearly 80,000 animals since its inception. The shelter assists nearly 4,500 dogs and cats each year, caring for an average of 300 animals daily with another 100-150 animals in foster homes.
