Teachers Descend On Niagara Falls To Talk EdTech

Canada’s largest education conference is returning to inspire the classrooms of tomorrow

April 29, 2015 - PRLog -- The face of education is changing, and Niagara Falls is at the heart of the shift to technology- driven learning. For the fifth year running, educators from across North America are gathering at the Scotiabank Centre to discuss and learn about how to bring technology into their classrooms for more impactful learning.

“Educators are realizing that to keep their lessons relevant to students, they need to better incorporate technology into their classrooms.” says Dino Miele, Chief Information Officer with District School Board of Niagara. “If we don’t embed technology into lessons, we don’t engage students”.

Concerns have arisen around technology adoption in schools centred around student data privacy, with many companies providing the tools to districts that hold confidential information. Workshops at the conference will educate teachers on the risks and best practices of using education technology, and protecting sensitive data that they collect with it.

Kitchener education technology startup Chalk.com is one of the many companies hoping to bring their tools to teachers at CONNECT. CEO William Zhou is excited for the future of classroom learning that technology will enhance.

“Technology in education is so important to allow personalized learning for students.” says Zhou. “At Chalk.com we want to improve how every student learns, by helping teachers provide the best learning experience.

Education technology adoption rate is only 20% in Canadian classrooms according to DSBN, with the remainder of educators hesitating at shifting their practice. The 2,500 teachers arriving in Niagara Falls at CONNECT will work together to find effective techniques to assist more schools in bringing technology into learning.
