April 20, 2015 - PRLog -- During the past few years a new building trend has emerged. People are using large shipping containers as building blocks in constructing their homes. They do this for a variety of reasons: cost, environment, durability, and ease. A completely constructed container home on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica is currently being sold at a remarkable price when compared to the cost of similar properties in the area that run well over $100k.

Shipping containers are a viable option for construction because they are built to last. They are made out of high quality steel and are tempered to withstand the elements. They are also designed to accommodate a lot of weight; after all, shipping containers typically hold many tons of goods while being stacked eight or nine high. This material also appeals to people looking to save on cost and be environmentally friendly. They can repurpose old containers and spend approximately $2,000-$5,000 for a tall module that provides anywhere from 51 to 305 square feet of internal living space per container.

This 700 sq ft home involves 3 containers, 2 on the ground floor and 1 on the second floor. It has a definite surfer vibe with two covered decks sporting hammocks, surfboards and other beach paraphernalia in the rafters of the ground floor deck, and ocean-themed decor throughout the home. The sole bedroom is located on the second floor with access to a private deck. On the ground floor an open floor plan allows the brilliant tropical sun to illuminate the living, dining, and cooking areas. There's a complete full bath and a laundry tucked under the stairs. It comes fully furnished with custom organically designed wooden tables, chairs, and bed. In the bedroom is a flat screen TV is also included in the price.

The property includes interesting features like edible landscaping. Avocado and coconut trees, sweet potato, lemon grass, and oregano sprawl across the 2,367 sq ft lot. The house was designed with a unique security feature: the ability to completely close up it up during extended absences. Large steel panels slide and fold over entry points and lock, making this container home a vacation-friendly option for someone looking for a second home.

The property is located in prime real estate area, just south of the bustling tourist-attracting city of Jacó, while still having access to quieter and more private chocolate sand beaches. In fact, the property is only seven tenths of a mile from major surfing beaches, like Hermosa Beach, where an international surfing competition occurs once a year.
