Finding Midlife Solutions that Actually Work-Why Sleeping with 12 Strangers May Not be a Great Idea

How women can avoid the pitfalls of going to extremes during a midlife crisis.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - April 14, 2015 - PRLog -- Vancouver, BC A new book has been generating a lot of buzz about women’s experiences with midlife crisis. Robin Rinaldi’sThe Wild Oats Project details open marriage experiment that ended badly in an extreme response to a crisis in her marriage. It’s the kind of potentially painful response that Camilla Joubert, a lifestyle coach specializing in midlife crises, is helping others to avoid.

“There’s a tendency to sensationalize these types of responses to crisis, and that can make women think that these kinds of grand gestures are the only solution. That you have to sell all your possessions and suddenly start riding the rails like a vagabond to get through it,” says Joubert, who frequently speaks on how to develop positive coping mechanisms during a midlife crisis. “This seems like a particularly extreme response, where there wasn’t a lot of introspection going on, and the fact that they ultimately divorced tells us that the real issues at the heart of this crisis weren’t about sowing wild oats at all.”

Camilla cautions against extreme or rash reactions, “It’s not about there being a ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way to deal with the challenge of mid-life, it’s about finding the right tools for you—even if that is divorce. But the goal is make decisions you can live with, and that mitigate negative effects.”

Camilla’s own crisis led her to start her own business life coaching others in the struggles with life’s challenges, and midlife crisis in particular. “Undergoing my own crisis, I was both overwhelmed by the emotions, and underwhelmed by the support available—especially for women. It’s been cathartic for me both personally and professionally to help others out there as well.”
