Transaction Publishers Appoints New Editor, Announces New Series

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - April 13, 2015 - PRLog -- Transaction Publishers, a major independent publisher of social science books, announces the appointment of Professor Robert J. Spitzer as editor of the Presidential Briefings series.

Robert J. Spitzer is distinguished service professor and chair of the Political Science Department at the State University of New York College at Cortland. He is the author of fifteen books and over 600 articles and papers. He served as president of the Presidents and Executive Politics organization (formerly the Presidency Research Group) of the American Political Science Association from 2001–2003, is a regular contributor to the Huffington Post, and has been a visiting professor at Cornell University for over twenty years.

The books in the Presidential Briefings series provide concise and readable introductions to topics of general interest to students of the presidency. By approaching their subjects from the vantage point of what a president most needs to know, and what we most need to know about the presidency, these books provide a highly practical overview of an important subject.

The first book in the series is Political Rhetoric (http://www.transactionpub.com/title/Political-Rhetoric-97...) (publishing June 2015) by Mary E. Stuckey of Georgia State University, which examines how presidential use of rhetoric has contributed to and detracted from the health of American democracy. The second, scheduled for publication in the Fall/Winter 2015 season, is titled Making Foreign Policy Decisions, by Christopher Fettweiss of Tulane University.

“I am hopeful that the vitality of this series will itself be a lasting tribute to our much missed colleague, Tom Langston [creator and previous editor of the series],” says Spitzer.  “Transaction is an outstanding venue for this book series, and it provides a wonderful opportunity for scholars, whether new or established, to publish concise, authoritative, and accessible books on topics related to the presidency.”
