As a Talent Acquisition Professional for the past two decades, I am always searching for new tools to help me select the best candidate for the right position at the right time. However, the best candidate was often overlooked due to a poorly formatted resume, lack of key words, or worse yet simply not found. There are several misnomers in talent acquisition i.e., key words equates to actual skills; posting positions via social media will attract quality candidates; passive candidates can be found on LinkedIn (don't get me started on that can of worms); if we post they will come; etc. I can remember the days of Monsterboard (prior to just Monster), Westech job fairs (before becoming BrassRing and then Kenexa), user group forums found in newspapers, LinkedIn being closed to the general population just an employee referral based website, and paper resumes. I did not rely on the ATS to source or select the resumes, but rather on resume review and correlating the actual skills to the requirements of the job posting -- a bullseye approach. Unfortunately, ATSs usually had my top selection in the mid to bottom percentile. Consequently, I would search for candidates via job boards, cold calling, directories, internet, and then qualify the candidates for actual skills based on job title. Companies have to be more savvy in attracting key talent. An efficient sourcing tool can be created that will not only aggregates resumes but will validate skills not key words giving hiring managers and recruiters an edge on finding key talent.
