By: Acts 4 Ministry, Inc. Acts 4 Ministry Inc. Executive Director Sarah Elizabeth Carabetta commented, “We are enormously grateful to the Ion Bank Foundation for their very generous grant. The acquisition of this relatively new truck with only 24,000 miles on it will present expanded opportunities for our organization to pick up donated furniture and household goods and then deliver them wherever people throughout the Greater Waterbury region have a need. Our organization works with people who have lost their homes and all their possessions to fire, flood, or other unexpected and life-altering tragedies. Before acquisition of this box truck via Ion Bank Foundation’s generous grant, our volunteers drove a 20 year-old truck that had very high mileage. This newer truck puts us in the grateful position to pick up donations from people throughout the region, and then deliver when the need arises for people who we may help find new homes after they lost virtually all of their possessions.” The week-to-week mission of Acts 4 Ministry is to provide individuals and families who have suddenly lost their homes to unexpected devastation or upsetting life event to either go to the Acts 4 facility at 1713 Thomaston Avenue to personally select clothing, dishes, glassware, furnishings, and other basic needs at no charge, or have furnishings and other household goods delivered directly to them in their new homes. Each year the organization distributes clothing to nearly 4,000 people plus over 1,300 pieces of furniture and housewares to people of varying income levels throughout the Greater Waterbury area. Acts 4 Ministry partners with churches, social service agencies, and public schools to help identify and serve people with these needs in the context of the broader community regardless of their faith, race, creed, or national origin, or their willingness to participate in religious activities. The unveiling of the newly-acquired box truck was held at the Ion Bank at 87 Church Street in Naugatuck. In attendance at the unveiling were Ellen K. Rogers, Acts 4 Ministry Board of Directors Chairwoman; Teresa “Terri” Carrier, Ion Bank Branch Manager in Waterbury, and a new member of the Acts 4 Ministry Board of Directors; Charles “Chuck” Boulier, III, president and CEO of Ion Bank; and Sarah Elizabeth Carabetta, executive director of Acts 4 Ministry, Inc.
