Follow on Google News | Uncovering the Lincoln assassination cabalAuthor Steven Hager isn't called the "Oracle of West End Ave." for nothing. His career has put him at the forefront of some of the biggest social movements of our time, and he's published 30 books, but his latest is his first look back in time.
By: Steven Hager Books In 1967, at age 16, he founded an alternative newspaper titled The Tin Whistle which quickly grew to become the largest underground newspaper in Central Illinois, putting him at the forefront of the sixties revolution during its peak. In 1979, after receiving a masters in science degree in journalism, Hager moved to West End Avenue in New York City and began documenting the emergence of hip hop, as well as hip hop's influence on the downtown art scene. After writing two landmark books for St. Martins' Press, he became editor of High Times and took the magazine to its highest circulation, while publishing many groundbreaking investigations. "When I went to work for High Times in 1988, everyone in the industry told me I was committing career suicide," he recalls. "It was right after Len Bias had died and the magazine had a long history promoting cocaine. But I knew if I got rid of the coke and concentrated on cannabis everything would turn out fine." No one used to term "cannabis" then, as everyone called it "marijuana," In 1991, during the 25th anniversary of JFK's assassination, Hager wrote a cover story linking the CIA and organized crime to JFK's murder. Judge Jim Garrison called it "the best article ever written on the assassination." So how do you follow-up a string of successes on this magnitude? By solving the Lincoln assassination in time for the 150th anniversary of the event. "This is one of the most investigated murders in history," says Hager, "and almost all the primary documents are free online. It is an investigator's dream, and many crucial facts have only recently come to light. My book forges a trail many others will soon follow." Hager is available for interviews, and digital review copies are available on request to qualified media representatives. End
