By: Northeastern University Charlotte Recent surveys confirm that the odds of climbing out of poverty in the Charlotte metro area are among the lowest in the nation. In other words, odds of those born in the bottom 5%, climbing to the top 5% are less than 5%. “The gap between the rich and poor continues to grow here in the Queen City,” said Dr. Cheryl Richards, CEO & Regional Dean of Northeastern University—Charlotte. “Ranking dead last for upward mobility in the 50 biggest metro areas is a wakeup call that we need to find a way to reverse these trends and help revive the American Dream locally.” The panel, moderated by The Lee Institute’s Executive Director, Andrea Stevenson, features: Leslie Winner, Executive Director, Z.
