Record-breaking enrollment at Saint Louis University-Madrid Campus

March 9, 2015 - PRLog -- Enrollment at Saint Louis University-Madrid breaks records in the Spring 2015 semester with nearly 800 students on campus.

March 6, 2015- Enrollment atSaint Louis University - Madrid Campus (SLU-Madrid) has reached record-breaking levels in the current academic semester. The present enrollment of 798 students represents a significant increase: over the last five years, enrollment has not exceeded 700 students in any given semester.

With the inauguration of San Ignacio Hall in September 2013, SLU-Madrid positioned itself to accommodate more students on campus by increasing floor space by 40%. The surge in enrollment in Spring 2015 testifies to the increasing demand for international educational experiences.

“We are pleased to be able to welcome more students into our community this semester,” said Director of Enrollment Management, María-José Morell. “An increased enrollment translates into additional diversity within our student body in terms of nationality, heritage, interests, and personality. ”

The Campus offers a unique set of distinctly international programs including business, communication, international relations, Spanish, and psychology, which students can complete in their entirety in Spain. In addition, students may spend anywhere from one to six semesters taking courses that fulfill degree requirements for almost all of Saint Louis University’s 100 undergraduate academic programs, including those in engineering and health Sciences.

Students at SLU-Madrid are part of a multicultural community of now nearly 800 students, with more than 65 different nationalities represented on campus. The diversity within the community enriches campus life, both inside and outside the classroom. A debate on women’s rights in a political science class at SLU-Madrid, for example, takes on new dimensions because the students are from all corners of the globe. Activities such as the monthly “Cultural Coffee Breaks” mean that students share music, food, photographs, and personal experience of their home cultures with each other.

Current student Bracey Parr, from Suffolk, Virginia commented on his decision to pursue his Bachelor degree at SLU-Madrid:

Saint Louis University was founded in 1818 on the Jesuit tradition of “educating the whole person.” Today it is considered one of the top 100 research institutions in the United States. Its Madrid Campus opened in 1967 and has been awarding university degrees since 2003.

The Madrid Campus offers financial aid to more than half of its students. U.S. citizens or permanent residents are also eligible to apply for U.S. federal financial aid through FAFSA.
