ATC, Inc. Announces New Automated Leak Testing Process for IV Bags

The leak testing company has developed a new, 100% inline leak testing procedure to improve the efficiency and accuracy of IV bag inspections.

INDIANAPOLIS - Feb. 24, 2015 - PRLog -- In February 2015, ATC, Inc. reported that they had successfully accomplished a goal the company has been working on for the past four years. Noticing that the process of testing IV bags for container closure was a time-consuming, labor-intensive task, ATC, Inc. began developing a way to eliminate manual inspection of this product. Now, the company has successfully created a process capable of providing 100% container closure integrity testing (CCIT) for IV bags.

IV bags are produced at a rate of one every one or two seconds, or 40 per minute. Unfortunately, in the past, this high speed of production has made ensuring CCIT difficult. To test the IV bags, a row of six to eight people typically lines up along a conveyor belt, where they will pick up the products as they rush by and bring them to a big table for inspection. This fast-paced process is extremely challenging and causes a high level of fatigue. Moreover, its efficacy is questionable.

“Recent studies have proven that manual inspection is only 75-85% effective depending on the application and other factors,” said Larry Bishop, ATC, Inc.’s VP of Engineering and Operations. “In general, it’s 85% effective at best; the bottom line is that you can’t rely on using people to do these inspections without room for error.”

Now, ATC, Inc. has created a new process they believe could change the market: since 2011, the company has been developing an inline automated leak testing service for IV bags. With the new process, instead of traveling to a team of workers, IV bags are automatically loaded into a leak test chamber. This chamber is then evacuated, and the machine monitors the product for any leakage. Any defective IV bags are then automatically separated from the products that have passed inspection.

“Using ATC’s patented mass extraction technology, ATC is able to implement 100% leak test systems,” said Bishop. “In our opinion, this new process is going to revolutionize the market.”

The company’s 100% inline automated leak testing process has been tested and validated as an effective method. With this, ATC, Inc. believes it could eliminate manual inspection of IV bags, improving the efficiency and accuracy of the work as a result.
