New Tactic By Smugglers Seriously Hampers Our Border Law Enforcement Agencies

Feb. 19, 2015 - PRLog -- Smugglers along our southern border are using Jet Skis (personal watercraft) to run interference against our law enforcement personnel to enable the smuggling of drugs, weapons and people between the U.S. and Mexico with little chance of being caught.

Personal watercraft are very hard to detect and very fast, some exceeding 300hp. When not running interference they can be used to make high speed delivery runs to countless locations along the Southern California coast, the Rio Grande and up the Gulf Coast. The smugglers have even been known to ride with children to keep law enforcement at bay.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, personal watercraft account for 68% of smuggling operations--consisting of mostly illegal immigrants and drugs.

For example, the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol website stated that on Sunday, February 8th, 2015 four illegal immigrants were dropped off near Imperial Beach, Ca. While the illegal immigrants were captured the personal watercraft and their operators escaped back to Mexico.

In a story by Jeanette Steele of the San Diego Union-Tribune, federal authorities intercepted 50 smugglers on personal watercraft during a three month period in the fall of 2013. In response, Captain Jonathan Spaner, commander of the Coast Guard’s San Diego sector said “It’s become a routine conveyance of organized crime. Because of that, and because 50 to me is a high number, I see that as a security threat”.

Force 8 Security, based in Seminole, Fl. are experts in non-lethal boat stopping systems. They’ve been asked by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to develop a system for stopping jet driven watercraft.

According to Force 8 Security spokesperson, Shawn Spilde, “after doing some research on the problem, we discovered that the U.S. Navy, U.S.A.F, U.S.C.G. and U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency also have expressed interest in having a system like this”.

“We’ve already developed a working prototype” added Spilde “we just need to adapt it to the higher powered jet drives available today”.

While some of these agencies have mentioned the possibility of financing the final development Spilde says “getting government funding would be nice but it is a lengthy process….for this reason we’ve started a crowd funding campaign because our law enforcement personnel need this system now”.

Force 8 Security is asking the general public to go to the Kickstarter website, enter ‘boat stopping’ in the search box and support our brave law enforcement personnel along the border.
