PARK FOREST, Ill. - Feb. 16, 2015 - PRLog -- The Rainbow Fish, Marcus Pfister’s best-selling tale, has delighted children since its publication in 1992 with its shimmering foil-stamped illustrations and simple yet compelling storyline. Now this beloved book has been adapted for the musical stage by ArtsPower National Touring Theatre, one of America’s leading producers of professional theatre for young people and their families. The Rainbow Fish is bound to be enjoyed by both the young and the young-at-heart. Freedom Hall in Park Forest, is presenting this original production on Friday, February 27 at 7 p.m. For ticket information, please call 708-747-0580 or visit the Freedom Hall website at http://freedomhall.org/season-schedule/childrens-theatre.

Of all the creatures in the ocean, the Rainbow Fish is by far the most beautiful. Her special iridescent scales make her the envy of all she sees, and she couldn’t be happier about it; since she is special, surely everyone will admire her. So when the other fish ask her to share her scales with them, she naturally refuses. Why would she ever sacrifice the one thing that makes her unique?

Suddenly, the Rainbow Fish notices that no one seems to be interested in her anymore. She is all alone, and it’s no use being good-looking if no one takes any notice. At a loss, she decides to seek help from the wise old octopus. Her advice? In order to find happiness, she must give away some of her shining scales. Only then will she be accepted by the other fish.

This suggestion seems odd, but the Rainbow Fish makes up her mind to give it a try. So when a little blue fish makes a request for just one tiny scale, the Rainbow Fish grits her proverbial teeth and consents. To her surprise, letting others partake of her splendor feels much better than hoarding it! Soon all the fish in the sea have lovely scales, and the Rainbow Fish learns that the path to true friendship can be found through generosity.

The Rainbow Fish was adapted for the stage by ArtsPower’s Artistic Director Greg Gunning, who also wrote the lyrics and directed the production. Composer/orchestrator Richard DeRosa created the original Broadway-style score.

Mark and Gary Blackman founded ArtsPower in 1985 and have been steering its course ever since. ArtsPower has grown into one of America’s largest and most active producers of professional theatre for young and family audiences. Its 28 professional touring productions have been seen by nine million people in 49 states – from Alaska to Florida – in some of the nation’s top regional theatres, university auditoriums, and cultural centers, including The Kennedy Center in Washington, DC and Lincoln Center in New York.
