PHOENIX - Feb. 5, 2015 - PRLog -- Phoenix Dental Practice, Central Dental Care, provided a donation to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer on January 3rd, 2015. Ms. Robin Hansen came by the office, located at 9315 N Central Ave, Phoenix AZ 85020, and picked up the envelope. The Susan G. Komen Foundation not only helps to fund research for a cure but they are also involved in assisting people who are already sick with treatment.

Over the course of two months, Central Dental Care Management and Staff  informed their Patients about the Susan G. Komen donation drive. The Patients, along with Central Dental Care Management and Staff, gave generously. After the two months were up, Dr. Espinoza wrote his own check matching the total given up to that point. This made for a fine donation for Ms. Hansen to pick up.

Dr. Mark Espinoza said, "This cause is especially dear to my heart because my own sister passed from this disease about ten years ago."

The Susan G. Komen Mission is to save lives and end breast cancer forever. In 2014, Susan G. Komen’s community grants provided financial and social support for more than fifty thousand families impacted by breast cancer. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among females across the globe and the second-most common cancer overall. In 2014, an estimated 232,030 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in the United States alone.

The Doctor and members of his Staff enjoyed a nice conversation with Ms. Hansen after the donation was handed over. Central Dental Care learned that men also get (and die) from breast cancer. In fact, the men's Mortality Rate from this disease is significantly higher than the women's, perhaps because of lack of awareness.

Dr. Espinoza spoke about the possible link between breast cancer and gum disease. He spoke about a recent study, by the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, on more than three thousand patients which revealed that those who had gum disease and tooth loss had more than eleven times greater risk of developing breast cancer.

Dr. Espinoza was quoted, "Increasingly, more and more links are found between periodontal disease and serious conditions like diabetes, heart problems and cancer. This is precisely why Central Dental Care is now focusing on soft tissue management and preventing gum disease."
