| ![]() France Publishes Notice to Remind Manufacturers of Safety Standards Applicable to Cot BumpersA notice published on 30 October 2014 in the French Official Journal reminds the General Obligation of Safety applicable to cot bumpers in France (art. L221-1 of the French Consumer Code). (1)
Cot bumpers shall be designed such as to avoid any strangulation hazards due to ribbons, cords and straps that are likely to generate loops or nooses in the sleeping environment of young children. French experimental standard XP G 30-106: 2012 gives suitable requirements and test methods applicable to cot bumpers. For more details regarding the content of XP G 30-106 please see our fact sheet. (2) Straps, Ribbons and Other Product Information - Straps and ribbons used to attach cot bumpers to a cot shall not have a free length exceeding 300 mm when they are stretched with a 25 N force. - Any other functional or decorative strap or ribbon shall not have a free length exceeding 140 mm. - Relevant product information is required, to ensure cot bumpers are used in safe conditions. This notice repeals and replaces the previous notice regarding these articles published in the French Official Journal on 24 December 2006.
