DARIEN, Conn. - Nov. 3, 2014 - PRLog -- This November, the Geary Gallery of Darien proudly presents “Celebrating Realism” featuring the breathtakingly realistic paintings of two of Darien’s finest women artists: Chet Saur and Mary Morant. Their exhibit runs November 1 – 26 at the Geary Gallery located at 576 Boston Post Road in Darien.

Featured Artist, November: Chet Saur

Darien resident, Chet Saur, is well known in the Fairfield County area for her oil paintings of nature, especially water scenes in Connecticut.

Upon graduation from college, Saur went on to study at the Art Students League in New York.

While there, she was fortunate enough to study under well-known illustrator, Robert E. Schulz, and fine artist Frank Liljegren. She also studied under John Howard Sanden, an internationally known portrait artist.

She took the Corporate Prize in the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Show in New York in 1991. She was also represented in the Audubon Artists 1992 Show, and the 1990 Allied Artists and 1990 Faber Birren Art shows. She also showed at the New Haven Paint and Clay Show—all prestigious juried national shows.

Closer to home, Saur won first place in oils in the Connecticut Classic Artists’ competition of 1990 and third place in 1991. She won first place for oils in the Kent Art Association 2004 summer show, and participated in the Art on the Avenue Show on Greenwich Avenue, Greenwich CT 2005 through 2014.

Saur explained her goals in her endeavors are “to capture the good, the beautiful and the true, to further my abilities, and to perhaps brighten up someone’s day.”

Featured Artist, November:

Mary Morant

Mary Morant, designer, painter and Darien resident, has been involved in the visual arts for more than 25 years. After earning her BFA from the University of Georgia, she worked in Aspen, Colorado designing restaurant logos.

She then spent 10 years in New York City as an art director working on the IBM account. She pursued her painting at night at the Art Students League studying under David Leffel.

Having spent six years in Europe, Mary studied painting at the Louvre Museum in Paris. In Holland, she studied under Marike Bok in The Hague. “Having lived in France and Holland, the sky was always an important part of French and Dutch painting—and life—evoking several different moods,” Morant explains. “The places I have lived have become a part of me and what I value. My paintings are an attempt to share with others the images that stay with me even after I leave.”

Morant has been back in the U.S. since 2001. “Living by the water inspires me every day. I feel lucky to be surrounded by the colors of nature and it’s ever changing light.”

Her work can be found throughout Fairfield County in several galleries, offices, and homes as well as in private collections in Georgia, Montana, New York, France, Switzerland, and Holland.
