Geared toward a pre-teen audience, the Brody Boondoggle series centers on the adventures of brothers Brody and Jake in their quest to save the Akaway—a rare and magical creature that connects children to their spirit animals and the special powers the animals possess. Gary came up with the idea for the series after a birthday party he created for his younger son, Brody. He named the books’ main characters after his two sons, and now he wants to give his fans and their children a chance to have a character named after them. “Growing up, my teachers understood how to harness my imagination,” Gary has spent the past 17 years working for children and families at nonprofits such as the Welfare to Work Partnership, the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and Safe Kids Worldwide. He is a contributor to the Huffington Post, and the co-author of No Free Lunch: One Man's Journey from Welfare to the American Dream. End
