The uncrowned king of Punjabis and friend of friends, Raghbir Jaura is mostly seen with unwavering smile on his face. It is the effect and splendor of his personality that being born in a simple family, he has earned big name and fame in Bambino, Shemaroo, Shine Star and Sun Star branded video world. He has produced more than one and a half dozen programs like Cinema – Cinema for Doordarshan, he explored successfully the mining industry ranging from Chhattisgarh to Uttarakhand, and was successful in setting up a real estate empire - ‘Jaura Infrastructure’.

Apart from the aforementioned, there is no dearth of luxurious and costly vehicles at Jaura’s Five Star farmhouse at Vasant Kunj, New Delhi. His machine fleet also includes Choppers & Airplanes and, during the great havoc in Uttarakhand in 2013, these were put into the service in order to provide relief to the affected. He is ever ready to work for social causes such as marriages of poor girls etc.

Mischief exudes from him all the time, and one can’t guess where, when and how he will trap you in the magic of his mischiefs. Even, I wasn’t spared by his mischiefs and had to bear the consequences as well. But, in friendship everything is pardoned.

After declaring to help Afghan Kabulis by providing Rupees One Crore charity, in the starting of the year it was all set for him to go and attend the mass marriages of 25 girls at Shaheed Udham Singh Nagar in which each bride would receiveRupees 1 lakh, but could not go due to poor weather and thick fog.

We were waiting in the VIP waiting lounge at the Indira Gandhi International Airport for the personal helicopter to take off but due to the bad weather couldn’t do that.

Due to our helicopter not being able to fly citing thick fog, no doubt we couldn’t reach wedding mandap in Bajpur, which saddened Kulbhushan Chadha as well. However, the then Governor of Uttarakhand reached at the marriage ceremony and blessed the newlywed couples whereas Jaura had to make alternate arrangements to send the ‘Sagan’ envelopes.

It is interesting to mention that the current Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Harish Rawat was also sitting with us at that time. No idea what mischief came across Jaura’s mind and he took off his ‘mala’ of gold beads and put it in hand of Harish Rawat and prayed for Guru’s blessings. Look at the miracle of nature that Harish Rawat’s desire to become Chief Minister of Uttarakhand came true, even though Jaura had close friendship with his bitter opponent, H.N. Bahuguna.

Jaura claims that only he got the chance to be the leader of four out of six delegations of Sikhs, comprising of the then leaders of Delhi Gurdwara Committee, during Dr. Manmohan Singh’s 10-year tenure as Prime Minister of India

Jaura can’t forget the day when he was able to convince Sardar Prime MinisterDr. Manmohan Singh to lay the foundation stone for the beautification project of Gurdwara Rakab Ganj complex. But due to Sarnas sidelining and ignoring Jaura in this mission this alliance couldn’t reach its potential and Prime Minister refused to go there otherwise, had the foundation stone of this project which was funded by the financial donations of business magnets like Ponty Chadha, been laid by the Prime Minister, the popularity of Sarnas would have had increased manifold, and none could have stopped the implementation of the project including NDMC.

Jaura regrets that had Manmohan Singh had laid down this foundation stone,no one could have attempted to ignore/disrespect the foundation stone. Sarnas were able to escape the humiliation by asking then Delhi Chef Minister Sheila Dikshit to act as a substitute for Prime Minister and lay the foundation stone. But committees then rulers didn’t give any importance to that foundation stone.

It is the splendor of Jaura’s personality that in spite of being non-Jatt, non-MLA, non-Minister, he plays a pivotal role in Punjabi politics while sitting in National capital Delhi, and despite being a mischievous ‘saint’ he has never attempted to look at the politics of religious strongholds such as temples, mosques and Gurdwaras.Jaura has been nominated as Director in India’s top seven individual business houses. Not ending here be it the matter of getting Anand Marriage act enforced or getting Citizenship rights for Afghan Sikhs or getting Davinder Pal Singh Bhullar pardoned from death sentence, he was the frontrunner in approaching the concerned authorities ranging from prime Minister to President.

It seems as if the current as well as past rulers of Delhi Gurdwara committee feel compelled to approach these government officials through Jaura.

Maybe this was the reason that in order to maintain their sultanate many hardcore Sikh religious rulers were not hesitant to religiously felicitate ‘beard cut’ Sikh Raghbir Jaura

Jaura is usually present in and gracing all gatheringsbe it political, bureaucratic, diplomatic or any other gathering. He is respected and honored in Delhi’s Punjabi circle.

If the Delhi Sikh politicians, particularly the previous and the present office-bearers of DSGMC, want to meet the high-ups in Govt. circle, they are constrained to knock at the Jaura’s doors and take him along with them. That is why even the staunch Sikhs honour Jaura with ‘Saropas’, although the latter trims the beard.

Not ending here ranging from US President Barack Obama, Britain’s Prince Charles, Queen of Sweden, King of Belgium, to Giani Zail Singh, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, Jaura has been fond of consulting them on multifarious issues.
