NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio - Sept. 11, 2014 - PRLog -- Local 435 of the Indiana/Kentucky/Ohio Regional Council of Carpenters (IKORCC) teamed up with H.O.N.O.R.S. (Housing Our Nation’s Outstanding Returning Soldiers) and various charities to rebuild a home for a disabled Afghanistan war veteran.

Sgt. Everett “Alex” Haworth was severely injured while on deployment in Afghanistan. He spent six months in Walter Reed Medical Center receiving treatment and rehab for his injuries and an additional five months at a community-based Warrior Transition Unit. He currently resides in North Olmsted Township with his wife and two children.

Adam Yourievitz, a Local 435 apprentice and volunteer, says the project hits close to home for him. Yourievitz, a former member of the armed forces, transitioned into the Carpenter’s Union through the Helmets to Hardhats program. “Helmets to Hardhats is a program that connects military members with training and career opportunities in the construction industry,” said Yourievitz. “The program helps military service members like myself smoothly transition back into civilian life. Volunteering for a project specifically for a former military service member gives me a chance to show my support and thank him for putting his life on the line for our country.”

“At the end of the day, it’s all about the men and women who serve our country and showing them our sincere respect and appreciation,” said Kevin Ennis, IKORCC Representative. “Being able to help build a home for Sgt. Haworth and his family is so inspiring, and we feel so privileged to lend our time and skills to pay homage to one of our nation’s heroes.”
