Bilzin Sumberg Raises $9,000 in a Back-to-School Drive Benefiting Lotus House

MIAMI - Sept. 10, 2014 - PRLog -- Bilzin Sumberg Baena Price & Axelrod LLP, through its community initiative program Bilzin Sumberg Cares, recently partnered with Lotus House in launching a Back-to-School Drive. In order to raise the largest amount possible, the firm decided to make the Back-to-School Drive an internal competition between the various floors they occupy in a Brickell Avenue skyscraper. Collectively, the firm raised over $9,000 in school supplies and cash donations.

Lotus House provides free housing, sanctuary and support for homeless women and their children. Lotus House currently houses over 110 women and children on a daily basis, where they also provide access to medical and mental health care, parenting education, counseling and parent/child therapy, life skills and a host of other enrichment activities to aid these women to transition to permanent homes off the street.

"More than 45 Lotus House guests are school-aged kids, teens and young adults," said John C. Sumberg, the firm's Managing Partner and a member of the Lotus House Board of Directors. "It's necessary for these kids to have the appropriate school supplies to ensure they have a successful and positive year. We are very pleased we were able to make such a substantial contribution for these women and their families."

Bilzin Sumberg is a long-time partner of Lotus House and the firm frequently participates in its charitable initiatives. Last year, Bilzin Sumberg hosted its annual Bilzin Sumberg Cares Project Day at Lotus House, where firm attorneys and staff spent the day repainting 32 apartments at the Lotus House shelter.
