Sept. 3, 2014 - PRLog -- Moseley, VA – In partnership with Chesterfield County’s Cub Scout Pack 2842, Den 2 of the Boy Scouts of America, Heart of Virginia Council, HHHunt Homes of Richmond team members volunteered their time and industry expertise to assist the boys with meeting the requirements for earning the Engineering Merit Badge. The group of Webelos arrived at 4 p.m. on Thursday, August 14th at Sherwood Fields, the renowned homebuilder’s single-family neighborhood within Magnolia Green in Moseley, Virginia.

HHHunt Homes Construction Manager Jarod Ambrosino led the attentive Cub Scouts on an informative site tour that included a cleared homesite, a home under construction and a completed home. Also on hand from HHHunt Homes of Richmond were Division General Manager Patrick McCarthy, Builder Justin Cullivan, Sales Manager Kerry Kreis and Marketing Manager Cameron Chandler.

Cub Scout Leader Mark Dillon and Sonny Breedlove chaperoned Cub Scout Pack 2842, which included Jack Dillon, Antony Delaney, Joe Cumbie and Shane Breedlove. In addition to an exciting construction tour, the Cub Scouts enjoyed refreshments and received customized hard hats and t-shirts from the renowned homebuilder.

“The explanations and demonstrations of all of the safety features, such as the hurricane brackets, ground wires, smoke detectors, safety windows and gas lines, were great,” said Mark Dillon, Cub Scout Leader, Pack 2842, Den 2. “All the boys agreed that their favorite part was the cool, official hard hats. They felt like they were real construction workers.”

According to Dillon, the field trip provided by HHHunt Homes of Richmond enables the Webelos (“We'll Be Loyal Scouts”) to earn the Engineering Merit Badge. The goal of the Webelos program is to prepare a Cub Scout to be a Boy Scout. This badge, along with others, will help the boys to earn the “Arrow of Light” award – Cub Scouting’s highest achievement, and one that publicly announces their preparedness in transitioning to Boy Scouts.

“We'd like to thank HHHunt Homes’ construction manager, head contractor, all the folks from its sales staff and all the other people who answered our many questions,” said Dillon. “Thank you for the patience, knowledge and time. I applaud them for going out of their way to help these young men. HHHunt Homes made a lasting impression on all of us.”

Webelos work to earn activity badges while also building character, learning the responsibilities of citizenship and developing personal fitness. Twenty different activity pins can be earned by Webelos – most of them corresponding to badges offered in the Boy Scouts. While working to earn the Engineering Merit Badge, the boys of Cub Scout Pack 2842, Den 2 were encouraged to think as engineers would when finding practical solutions for designing and creating things that lend value to society.

“The Cub Scouts promotes great fun while facilitating the positive personal growth of our youth,” said Patrick McCarthy, Richmond division general manager for HHHunt Homes. “We enjoyed being a part of this outstanding endeavor, primarily because it’s designed to impart the value of perseverance, personal achievement, ethics and integrity, responsibility, education and camaraderie. These values definitely are in line with our own, which made it a very worthwhile and satisfying experience to share.”

Incorporated in 1910 and chartered by Congress in 1916, the Boy Scouts of America’s educational program gives Scouts the opportunity for advancement within a ranking system. While the achievement of each rank becomes increasingly difficult, Scouts also have the opportunity to earn merit badges in more than 130 subjects. Requirements for the Engineering Merit Badge are periodically updated to keep pace with the continuous technological advancements applied within the engineering industry.
