Lab Takes To The Skies By Establishing Drones Subsidiary For Video Content
Digital agency, Lab, has opened up a subsidiary to offer clients aerial photo and video content using drones
The subsidiary, Drone Media Technologies Ltd (DMT), will work with RPAS (Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems), more commonly known as drones, initially to deliver media and film footage for a growing number of Lab's clients in the leisure and marine sectors, but it will also be investigating commercial applications for future growth and expansion.
A number of the Lab team have spent months in training to become qualified UAV pilots on their way to getting a permission for aerial work from the CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) – which only a few hundred people in the UK have. Lab is building a fleet of DJI S1000s carrying Canon 5D MKIIIs to deliver exceptionally high-quality video and photography work, and their next plan is to offer 4K video as an option.
In what is a hugely growing area for golf courses, estate agents, country houses, and businesses in the marine and leisure industries to market their products in a slightly different way, orders for aerial footage are already flying in to Lab and DMT, as more and more companies realise how filming with a drone could make their business really take off.
"As a digital agency, Lab loves to be at the forefront of technology and how this is changing the world, hence our focus on drones and the myriad of applications for which they can be used. They really are changing the world as we know it," said Jonny Tooze, founder and managing director, Lab.
"We already do a lot of video work for our clients, and taking this to the next level by offering aerial filming services (http://lab.co.uk/
To coincide with the launch of their drones business, Lab is putting on an event called Drones For Good, featuring high-profile speakers from across the world talking about how drones are changing the lives of people and businesses in remarkable ways, via their use in conservation, research, humanitarian efforts, precision agriculture, and the utilities and film industries, amongst others. Keeping with the aerial theme, the event will be held on 25 September 2014 at the RAF Museum London. Interested parties can register at http://dronesforgood.co.uk.
