George moved to Asheville January 1968, after a three year stint with Boeing Aircraft, At their Cocoa Beach FL location. In 1969 he started his first business, the Western Carolina Warehousing Company. It was a commercial bonded warehouse. Since then he has continued to grow and launch several successful real-estate ventures. One of these - his storage company, which he started in 1975 with a 2,000 square foot facility.  This he grew to 12 self storage facilities with over 600,000 square feet when it was sold in July 2014 to a Florida Company, allowing George to continue to focus and develop other ideas and initiatives.

George’s passion for Asheville has led to his active involvement in a variety of organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce, CEBO and others. In 1973 he understood the need for affordable low income housing, which led to him building 490 low income housing units in 14 locations in Western North Carolina and Tennessee.

“I love Asheville, it is a small city and has an attitude that enables small business to grow and thrive.  It was this attitude that enabled my start to build a successful company. The area has become a wonderful business incubator for a vast range of business types and I’m excited to be a part of this and to help the region continue to grow as a great entrepreneurial corridor.”

George’s testimony speaks for itself. As a Real Estate Developer he has developed over 2.5 million square feet of commercial space for retail, office, manufacturing and warehousing.  He still leases and maintains 1.3 million. He also has a 434 pad mobile home park off of Airport Road and the 490 apartment units.
