TORRANCE, Calif. - Aug. 8, 2014 - PRLog -- What is this music therapy?  It is a clinical and evidence-based use of music to accomplish modified goals within a healing relationship. It is a tool that helps people manage their physical, emotional, or mental problems.  How does this therapy works? Clients can interact with music by listening, singing, or dancing to it. They can also write a song and discuss the lyrics to their fellow clients. There is also a free tutorial in playing an instrument like guitar, violin, piano, and drums.

Substance Abuse Recovery had tried using an experiential program which they called “Music Therapy Program”. They hired a well-trained therapist who knows how to use music effectively. The therapist is the one who have decided on what treatment is the best for the clients. In the therapy, the clients were asked to compose and listen to songs. They were also taught on how to play musical instruments.

They say boredom is one of the reasons why a client relapses to their early recovery. But because of this kind of program, the clients learned that listening to songs can relieve their boredom. Music also helped clients in their loneliness and depression period because it helped them boost their mood and helped them feel a bit less alone in the world. The therapist also used this as a meditation tool especially for those clients who do not yet have the patience for a more formal practice.  It helped them in their concentration levels.

At the end of the new program, patients are asked to perform what they have learned from the therapy. This recital will help patients develop their self-confidence, and their talents. Some will sing, dance, and will play musical instruments whether solo or in a group.

According to the treatment center’s experts this kind of approach can be of benefits to all people of all ages, and it helps their patients well because they can choose their own recovery playlist. To some, classical song is soothing for them while other it could be punk rock. Expert’s also observed that this kind of approach is also a wonderful tool to help their patients in their daily exercise because there are tracks that motivate and encourage them to pick up the tempo to their activities.

The music therapy program had been a great impact especially to the clients who just came into the treatment center because when people first become sober they are likely to experience rollercoaster ride of emotions. When the client created their song they purge their destructive emotions to it. Clients also became stress-free because of music.

But this music therapy program has its down side. That’s why therapist taught their patients on what song to listen because there are tracks that are associated with drinking and drug using, which may trigger memories of the times when an individual felt that their substance abuse was pleasurable. The therapist recommended that for the early stage of recovery, it is best to completely avoid any song associated with substance abuse. The therapist even added that there are plenty of other types of song to explore and enjoy.

Substance Abuse Recovery aims to create new treatment programs, wherein patients can experience a different kind of approach at the same time effective. By having this new kind of treatment program patients will enjoy and will surely complete their recovery.
