Follow on Google News | Project Mum Founder nominated for National AusMumpreneur AwardRashida Tayabali, founder of Project Mum, a project matching service for skilled mums, has been nominated for the 2014 AusMumpreneur Awards in the Emerging AusMumpreneur category.
By: Project Mum Rashida aged 31, runs two businesses from home (writing and Project Mum) whilst looking after her 2.5 year old. She started freelance writing in 2012 and her byline has appeared in national publications such as Essential Kids and LifeStyle (SMH), Men’s Fitness magazine, Women’s Agenda and Women’s Health & Fitness magazine. At the end of 2013 she started Project Mum which aims to connect skilled mums (including those who have chosen to leave the workforce) to long term and short term project work in growing businesses. The idea came to her while she was searching for flexible roles suited to her marketing skills and experience while on maternity leave. Not liking the idea of sending her young son to childcare and hearing about similar experiences from her friends inspired her to offer a service which allows mums to use skills and knowledge acquired pre‐baby and provides growing businesses with on‐demand expertise without the high price tag or long term contracts. There are many benefits to balancing business and motherhood as Rashida explains, “I get to spend time with my son as he’s growing up which I didn’t want to miss out on by working full time. My business feeds my creative side and enables me to meet some amazing people who I wouldn’t have met otherwise.” “I started my business because I wanted to help other mums find flexible work in family friendly businesses. I want to help dispel the idea that stay‐at‐home mums are a liability to the economy and tap into the huge talent on offer currently underutilised.” It can be challenging to be a successful business woman whilst raising a family and Rashida gives this advice for others thinking about starting their own enterprise. “Start small but think big. You don’t need a lot of money to start a business and in the online world connecting to others has become easy especially via social networks. Be persistent and courageous and you will achieve your goals.” Finalists will be selected by a public vote at www.ausmumpreneur.com with voting closing at midnight on Monday 6 October 2014. The winners of the 2014 AusMumpreneur Awards will be announced at a glamorous Awards event in Melbourne in October 2014.
