"The Mischievous Ghost and Other Short Stories"
Short Stories Depict Life in Sri Lanka Over a Half Century Ago
By: Strategic Book Publishing and Rights Co, LLC
About the Book
From voodoo priests to Buddhist monks to Christian vicars, the wondrous tales told in The Mischievous Ghost and Other Short Stories evoke the culture on Sri Lanka in the 1950s and ‘60s.
Just after the country gained independence from England, these stories depict the last colonial rulers still trying to hang onto the empire. Told with gentle irony, these tales of another time and culture show that change must inevitably come. Marriage brokers, fire walkers, demons, spirits, and ghosts all have their place in this unforgettable collection of a time long gone.
Picture an inefficient policeman trying to find creative ways of solving murders, an arrogant butler who uses magic potions with unforeseen results, a fire and brimstone preacher who gets seduced by a maid, and a downtrodden housewife who slips easily into the role of Queen Victoria. These and more short stories are presented with a humorous touch.
