Are you prepared for the robot intrusion?

PILBARA, Australia - July 10, 2014 - PRLog -- It’s a widely held view that economic spikes in the mining sector can influence positively on mine industry employees’ remuneration packages. However, with focus and investment concentrating on mine safety and robotic trucking, what implications will the mining workforce experience?

The average miner flies in and out for work every 4 weeks, and on average earns $110,000 per annum. Will high-income mining jobs be adversely affected as the adoption of robotic trucking in mines is forecast to increase by up to 400%?

If the workforce is reduced and incomes decrease, the implications for mining job security rise against a reliance on autonomous robotic trucks and machinery in the future.

They have seven in-built safety features, which prevent them from colliding with other trucks, allowing them to operate alongside manned vehicles. In between all of those, it can sense where it's going around site. To tell it where to go, we have a map of the mine site, which in effect can tell the machine which lanes it can physically go on-site." ABC News.

Robotics may see incomes decrease, but so would the risk leading to the amount of deaths in mining. After all it’s true what people say… ‘You can’t put a price on a life.’
