| ![]() Are you prepared for the robot intrusion? The average miner flies in and out for work every 4 weeks, and on average earns $110,000 per annum. Will high-income mining jobs be adversely affected as the adoption of robotic trucking in mines is forecast to increase by up to 400%? If the workforce is reduced and incomes decrease, the implications for mining job security rise against a reliance on autonomous robotic trucks and machinery in the future. "The new-generation trucks are not remote controlled, they are truly autonomous. They have seven in-built safety features, which prevent them from colliding with other trucks, allowing them to operate alongside manned vehicles. In between all of those, it can sense where it's going around site. To tell it where to go, we have a map of the mine site, which in effect can tell the machine which lanes it can physically go on-site." ABC News. Robotics may see incomes decrease, but so would the risk leading to the amount of deaths in mining. After all it’s true what people say… ‘You can’t put a price on a life.’ Technological developments for resources companies will be a topic for discussion at the upcoming COO Leaders Resources Summit on the 22 – 23 October 2014, in Perth. The COO Leaders Resources Summit is Australia’s only tailored event held specifically for operational leaders to gather and interact over a range of important issues facing the industry. The current challenges and opportunities will be highlighted and discussed amongst thought leaders within the resources community. "COOs, CEOs, GM’s and Heads of Resources across the Asia Pacific are delighted with our invitation to this exclusive gathering. It is rare that they manage to take time out of their busy schedules to meet with the established and new resources companies in one room. It’s a wonderful opportunity where opportunities knock and business relationships answer." David Witty, Summit Director, COO Resources Summit Director.
