LTC supports online community RareConnect in multiple languages

KINGSTON UPON THAMES, U.K. - June 30, 2014 - PRLog -- RareConnect.org is experiencing positive results to date – with over 60,000 visitors per month from over 200 countries and sharing information for currently 54 different rare disease communities – and the key to encouraging activity through the online community is to provide communications in multiple languages. Multilingual content allows for greatly improved communication by removing language barriers.

RareConnect has an international strategy to build on success in current languages and to ensure that a seamless multilingual process is achieved. Human translation is provided at no extra cost to the forum participants. RareConnect manages a select group of translators and is investigating further effective ways to best increase the speed of the process by working with LTC.

The Language Technology Centre has experience in the multilingual requirements of an online community for specific subject areas. The company has previously developed platforms where different options to automate the translation process can be configured in order to serve the correct purpose of the online service.

“With new approaches to creating content and connecting people, it is becoming increasingly important to support communication in multiple languages at minimal cost,“ explains Adriane Rinsche, Managing Director, LTC.

An online network needs interesting content that members can use effectively and quickly. RareConnect provides the platform to understand a rare disease and share experiences, to meet and interact with others around the world and to learn with quality information from trusted sources. To be capable of performing this in many languages it is essential that a method be defined, detailed and managed.

“We appreciate working with LTC. For example, I was especially impressed with how quickly our aHUS (Atypical Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome) poll was translated from English to Italian recently. This helped us reach a deadline of launching the poll the following Monday in 6 languages to collect information from rare disease patients and their families.”
