GAINESVILLE, Fla. - June 3, 2014 - PRLog -- With the conclusion of the GRU Solar Feed-In-Tariff (FIT) Program, came the completion of sustainable projects around the Gainesville area. Almost 900 kW of solar power was added to the grid by Power Production Management (PPM). Leading the way to a more sustainable future are Jason Gonos and Alex Khokhlov, founders of PPM.

“These projects will have an incredible impact on Gainesville’s sustainability. We are essentially negating the electrical consumption of 90 local homes,” Gonos said. “Projects like these make the future look brighter.”

PPM installed solar systems at United Refrigeration, Northside Winn-Dixie Shopping Center, Silber Professional Center, and Westside Baptist Church. They were installed with a leasing arrangement that rents out roof space to investors for 20 years under the FIT program.

Westside Baptist Church now features a 315 kW system. The church collects a lease payment while the PV system is owned and operated by an investor.  The electricity will be fed directly into the grid and will help to power the church and nearby homes.  Pastor Phil Young was the driving force in the church leasing its roof space.

According to Young, Westside was attracted to solar energy because of its ideal roof space. The church’s decision to house the solar array came with the realization that the solar installation would bring the church revenue from an unused portion of its buildings and would be a positive statement to the community.

PPM worked with EcogySolar to finance some of these large projects. EcogySolar is a solar investment firm that sees great potential in Gainesville solar power. In 2012, it worked with PPM to build Gainesville's largest solar parking structure at the Continuum. Other large clients that PPM boasts are the Seagle Building and University of Florida’s Beta Theta Pi.

“People in Gainesville are starting to see solar as a great source for energy,” Gonos said. “Local companies and households are not only thinking about the environment, they are focusing on solar because of the savings.”
