HOUSTON - May 29, 2014 - PRLog -- Local orthopedic surgeon Dr. Sonya Sloan interviewed Maya Angelou just three weeks ago as part of an inspiring Mother’s Day message for women.  Sloan also is the founder of the women’s motivational organization ME & WE and offered this statement on Angelou’s death:

“Dr. Angelou was a towering figure of great wisdom, humor and kindness, and meeting her left you uplifted and feeling as if you'd been in the presence of a saint. Dr. Angelou lived a remarkable life for 86 years as an award-winning author, renowned poet, civil rights activist and producer.

I was so fortunate to record a conversation with Dr. Angelou on May 6.  My interview with this amazing woman inspired so many women, while also impacting my life.  During that 15-minute interview that ME & WE, Inc. shared on Mother’s Day, May 11, Dr. Angelou discussed her life story and offered advice to women on ways to repair their relationships.

‘You may not love your position, but be in love for the search of truth with finding reasons,’ she said.

Our organization was one of the last to speak with Maya Angelou. That interview will be released on our YouTube channel, MEand WeInc, it will be posted on Wednesday, May 28, 2014.

I was so emotional to speak to an icon. I held on to her every word. She is someone whom I have admired and whose words have impacted my life for so many years. I will forever be grateful for the time Dr. Angelou took to share wisdom to that little girl from Denison, Texas who is today an accomplished orthopedic surgeon. I am so humbled by the opportunity, but so empowered to continue her legacy to inspire others.

One of the pillars of our organization, Motivating & Empowering Women to Excel (ME & WE, Inc.), is Spiritual Enrichment to empower women lives.  ME & WE, Inc. offers life tools to help women to gain balance, economic empowerment and health awareness.

Dr. Angelou not only changed the course of history for us, but she left a legacy that can be appreciated by every human being. She was a treasure to the world, her teachings inspired millions—and her interview motivated me to encourage more lives and to always pay it forward.

On behalf of ME & WE, Inc., WE offer our sincere sympathy to Dr. Maya Angelou's family, friends and staff.  WE, the entire human race, are infinitely better off because of her leadership, courage and strength.  Her legacy will continue to shine forever."
